This may sound a little obvious but I like to think that there are 4 states of EA…
-
No EA
-
Poor EA
-
Wrong EA
-
Right EA
They are not sequential, but are useful and simple ways to understand what needs to be done to help lead and manage an EA function forward – this comes from my time as a Chief Architect. In other words, I think there are 4 leadership modes to consider when putting together a management action plan (or indeed identify who is best placed to be a Chief Architect!).
- No EA - need to get the start-up initiative going
- Poor EA – need to build the capability and team
- Wrong EA – need to manage the changes and demands coming from the Business
- Right EA – need to manage as an ongoing evolutionary set of processes
In future blogs I will look at each of these in their own right. Any thoughts?
